You can choose to have your child looked after in private day care.
You can also obtain a subsidy from your municipality towards having your child looked after by a private person rather than in the day care system. This special scheme is called ‘Frit valg-ordningen’ or the free choice scheme.
You can decide to receive a subsidy from your municipality towards having your child looked after in private day care instead of in the municipal day care or childminding system
The subsidy is available from when your child is 24 weeks old and until he or she starts at school (Year 0).
Private day care
If you would like your child to be looked after in private day care, you must contact the relevant private institution.
The individual private institutions have their own criteria for admission. Your municipality therefore cannot allocate places at private institutions.
The municipality is obliged to inspect the private day care institutions regularly.
Private day care institutions decide their own rates and invoice parents directly.
