Samsø
Samsø is boasting of natural beauty, cosy villages and fresh produce. The mild climate combined with plenty of beaches and good restaurants makes Samsø a popular tourist destination. However, the island is not only for visitors. Samsø is also an active and well functioning local community throughout the year and there are regular ferry connections to both Jutland and Sealand
With a population density of only 33 people per square mile there is plenty of room to live a tranquil life surrounded by a varied nature and always close to the sea.
In 1997 Samsø became Denmark’s (first) Sustainable Energy Island and achieved self-sufficiency in sustainable energy within 10 years.
Today 100% of Samsø’s electricity consumption is generated by 11 land-based windmills, and 70 % of the heat comes from sustainable energy sources.
